Founded in 1899, the Veterans of Foreign War's voice had been instrumental in improving the quality of life for veterans and their families through advocacy and service.
Through its legislative and national veterans service programs, the VFW is credited with improving the quality of life for veterans and their families by fighting for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. The VFW also has fought for improving VA medical centers services for women veterans and better screening procedures for breast and lung cancer.
Annually, VFW veterans service officers recoup more than $1 billion in VA benefits and compensation claims for veterans or their dependents.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, with its Auxiliaries, includes 2.3 million members in approximately 8,400 Posts worldwide. Annually, VFW members and its Auxiliary contribute more than 13 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week.
The VFW provides numerous services to military servicemembers and their families. The three main efforts of the VFW Military Services department are:

Jerry Newberry, 816-968-1168
Joe Davis, 202-608-8357
